Nile C. Kinnick Scholarship
Now in its 28th year, the Nile C. Kinnick scholarship aims to reward men with outstanding high school careers entering their first year at the University of Iowa. The scholarship is named for Nile Kinnick, Iowa’s lone Heisman Trophy winner and a brother of Phi Kappa Psi. Nile was known as a well-rounded individual and this is who the scholarship is intended to reward. In 2024, we will be awarding a total of up to $15,000 in scholarships. If you know someone who is a worthy candidate and meets the criteria, please encourage them to apply!
Application Process
The program begins in May when emails are sent to prospective applicants and their high schools. Of the hundreds of applications received, only the top applicants are named semifinalists and move on to interviews. Each semifinalist is then interviewed by two members of the scholarship selection committee during the summer usually in June or July (prior to or during orientation). The pool is narrowed once more to approximately twenty finalists invited to the Kinnick Scholarship Brunch, held the Sunday before the start of the school year. Each of the finalists is announced at this banquet as are the winners. The banquet is a great opportunity for young men to meet their future colleagues and celebrate each other’s accomplishments.
